About :: Overview

The VIC Network is an event management and social networking community, powered by veteran leaders of the First Internet Wave (1994-2000), dedicated to the proposition that relationships power technology innovation and adoption and that the Internet and related technologies that empower the digital lifestyle have yet to be created and will most likely see fruition by the end of this decade, (e.g., the Second Internet Wave, 2004-2010).

Like the Netscape IPO in August, 1995, the Google IPO in August, 2004 unleashed a wave of pent-up innovation that moved out of the limelight during the heralded "Crash" and post-9/11 recession. We at VIC Network believe it is more important than ever to reconnect with the innovators of the First Wave and to discover, embrace and empower the innovators of the Second Wave and beyond. That is a role the original VIC did magnificently in the late 1990s and is posed to do again now.

Its new mission is to improve upon this heritage and expand first regionally, then nationally, during this new era where new wireless and broadband technologies have made the world increasingly "flat".

VIC Network does not focus exclusively on any particular segment of the technology industry (e.g., advertising, telephony, entertainment), but it does have strong roots in digital media and convergence, which in 2005 has led to rapid growth in the new fields of digital home, wireless/broadband, VoIP, blogging, digital cinema and other interactive technologies. The network is also unique in seeking input from the broader technology community, as evidenced by its large and prestigious advisory board, as well as the diversity of its content.

VIC Network is looking for the elusive synergy that can be achieved through a network of people who are connected in person on a regular basis, as well as connected through the tools the industry itself has created, specifically social software tools such as message boards, blogs/wikis, podcasts and other social network functionality.

The VIC Network charges for its services in four ways: (1) event attendance fees, (2) annual membership fees, which include special privileges and access not accorded to non-members, (3) sponsorships, both annual and per-event, and (4) advertising and e-commerce opportunities on its site, emails and RSS feeds, including its "VIC Values" trade show promotions.
